Maylyn & Co is a sustainable, ethical, slow fashion brand that produces elegant, organic, luxury vegan silk. Their mission is to help make this world a better place by providing a high-quality, sustainable vegan silk alternative to traditional silk.
It’s important to realize that clothing we wear is equally as important as the food we eat. And if there are cruelty-free alternatives to those that are harmful to animals, why wouldn’t we choose a better way?
Discover eco-luxury vegan silk without cruelty and be inspired by the cruelty-free alternative of modal.
Vegan silk uses clean, plant-based materials that are better for the environment and harmless to animals – giving it an incredibly soft, breathable feeling.
Similar to 100% silk but without harm and with a cleaner, more sustainable process.
Traditional silk, on the other hand, is extracted and harvested from the cocoon of a silkworm aka caterpillars.
Before they even have a chance to hatch into their next transformative state, they are boiled alive or steam blasted to keep them from hatching.
The Maylyn & Co Company
Maylyn & Co is a family-run Canadian business proudly founded by a woman. They produce PETA-Approved vegan silk luxury sleepwear and pillowcases that are non-toxic and high in sustainability.
The sleepwear they produce is soft, durable, moisture-wicking, and 100% plant-derived which means no animals are killed in the process.
All materials and fabrics are fully sourced from sustainable family farms and small factories in Persia while the final manufactured products are completed in their Toronto workshop.
Ethical Working Conditions
What I love about this brand is that their products are not only animal-free, and sustainable, they are made with high ethical social standards. This means they ensure working conditions reach the standards set by the International Labour Organization.
Maylyn & Co employees are all adults who get treated and compensated fairly while being provided with ethical working conditions. This includes full lunch hours, breaks, and living wages.
They believe in treating everyone with kindness – animals, humans, and Mother Nature.
What you may not know –
Sadly, the silk industry is responsible for great suffering when it comes to production workers. Particularly in China and India.
And among many other industries, they are also linked to child slavery. Children as young as 5 years of age are forced to work 12 hour+ days, 6 to 7 days a week.
Sustainability and Packaging
Maylyn & Co works on implementing the most current sustainability practices to help sustain our environment for generations to come.
They also package their products using eco-friendly solutions including the use of vegan glues and biodegradable bags.
As a family of less than 50 employees, they are committed to quality and ethics; and it shows in their packaging and quality of clothing.
Maylyn & Co takes pride in the quality of their clothing and packaging rating high in sustainability.
Leftover fabrics are turned into scrunchies, sleep masks, and other accessories. And no single-use plastics are ever used in their packaging.
Maylyn & Co is committed to creating a business that supports the wellness of our planet. In doing so, they work to support organizations that are in full alignment with their values.
With every purchase made, you help plant one tree and provide a year’s supply of clean water to 2 people in need.
It’s businesses like these that I fully support and wouldn’t think twice about purchasing from.
Maylyn & Co Sleepwear Pieces
These Maylyn & Co pieces are not only sleepwear but they can also style easily. You can dress them up or down for a night out on the town, a nightcap at home or simply just to sleep in comfort.
I own their Blueporium vegan silk slip and their Oceanio Minimal Set and can honestly say, their products are of high-quality standards – soft, silky, and luxurious. The Blueporium slip is one of my favorites!
Who knew that plant-based, slow fashion could look and feel so good? I didn’t even know that silk was non-cruelty-free until I did my research.
Try it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!
Whether your looking for comfy sleepwear, sexy and smooth lingerie, robes, or silky pillowcases, these alternative to cotton and harmless silk pieces are the way to go.
