Top things to do in Isla Mujeres

From relaxing to shopping, exploring, and walking along the clear blue waters of the Caribbean, Isla Mujeres offers plenty to do. Rest assured, there is something for everyone.

Don’t forget to add your favorites to your travel itinerary!

Garrafon Natural Reef Park

Garrafon Natural Reef Park is a popular tourist attraction located on the southern end of Isla Mujeres. It’s known for its beautiful reefs and cliffs bordering the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Guests can enjoy snorkeling, diving, and an array of amenities while visiting the park.

If you’re staying on Isla Mujeres, you can walk or drive over to the park depending on your location on the island. However, if you’re staying in Cancun, you can enjoy the park on a day trip experience.

Swim with the Whale Sharks

If you’re traveling between May and mid-September, you’ll have the opportunity to swim with whale sharks in their natural habitat – for an unforgettable experience in nature.

These gentle water giants are harmless and take to the Gulf waters during their annual migration. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world measuring up to 46 feet and up to 15 tons in weight. Nothing to be afraid of though, they are very docile and enjoy swimming with people.

Go prepared for a full day in the sun and be sure to only wear bio-degradable (reef-safe) sunscreen. It’s the only sunscreen allowed.

Dive in the Underwater Museum

The Underwater Museum of Art is the largest underwater museum on earth. It is located in the waters of the Caribbean Sea between Cancun and Isla Mujeres.

While you can explore the upper layers of the museum by snorkeling, you will get the most out of the experience on a scuba diving adventure.

By diving you’ll be able to see more of the museum on the lower levels. You will also have access to over 500 unique sculptures and artificial reefs across several art galleries on the ocean floor.

This experience is highly recommended.

Rent a Golf Cart and Explore

If you want to make the most of your time and explore Isla Mujeres like a local, renting a golf cart is one of the best ways to do it.

Between the beaches, and natural pools to archaeological sites, exploring the island on a golf cart makes it so much easier to do. Plus, it allows you to explore at your own pace while maximizing your vacation time!

There are golf cart rentals throughout the island including at some of the resorts. All you have to do is ask.
