Juicing: How Long Can You Freeze Celery Juice for?

Can you freeze celery juice? A natural question to ask if you are among the many caught up in the fast-paced hustle of everyday life.

When you are constantly running against the clock, it’s not always easy to keep up with daily juicing. So finding alternatives to make it doable, can go a long way. This includes freezing your juice. 

In this post, I’ll be covering the freezing process and the best way to preserve your celery juice for optimal nutrition. Plus, tips, tricks, a celery juice cleanse, and more!

It’s also important that you don’t fill the jar to the rim. You will need to leave some room at the top for the juice’s expansion as it freezes. A good 3/4 inch is good or about the size of the rim neck.

How to Freeze Celery Juice

If you don’t have time to juice on a daily basis, freezing your celery juice, would be ideal.  It’s the next best option to the fresh juice version of it. 

For best results, it’s a good idea to freeze your juice in airtight glass containers like mason jars (as mentioned above) versus plastic bottles. Using plastic bottles will cause the juice to oxidize much faster and shorten its longevity.

  1. Prepare and Juice Celery:

    • Thoroughly wash the whole head of celery. 
    • If using a cold-press or masticating juicer, you’ll want to chop the celery stalks into smaller pieces. Depending on the type of juicer you’re using. If you have a horizontal juicer like the Omega, you can juice the entire stalk, one at a time. 
    • If you don’t have a juicer, you can use a blender and strain the pulp using a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer.
  2. Choose Freezer-Safe Containers:

    • Select airtight, freezer-safe glass containers or silicone ice cube trays. Freezing your cold-pressed celery juice in an ice cube tray makes it easy to use in smoothies. It’s also easier to consume in smaller batches. 
  3. Leave Room for Expansion:

    • Pour the celery juice into the containers, leaving some space at the top to account for expansion as the liquid freezes. This helps prevent the containers from cracking.
    • Be sure to secure the lid tightly.
  4. Label Containers:

    • Label each container with the date of freezing. This will help you keep track of freshness and ensure you use the oldest containers first.
  5. Thawing Process:

    • When you’re ready to use the celery juice, transfer the container from the freezer to the refrigerator the night before. Thawing in the refrigerator helps preserve the nutritional content better than letting it sit out at room temperature.
  6. Shake or Stir Before Consuming:

    • After thawing, give the celery juice a good shake or stir to blend in separated elements before drinking.

Freezing celery juice, or any freshly made juice for that matter, can alter its original taste and texture during the freezing process. Similarly, once thawed out, it won’t have the same nutritional benefit as fresh celery juice.​

The idea of freezing celery juice is to prevent oxidation and bacteria growth. In addition to making it readily available when needed. That’s if reaping the maximum rewards of this juice is not a top priority.

Now, I will be the first to tell you that the flavor of celery juice is not the best tasting of homemade juices. However, if you use my juice hack below, you’ll find it’s more than doable. 

Simple Celery Juice Cleanse Recipe 

1 bunch of celery 
1 lemon or lime 
1 organic cucumber, cut into chunks (optional)

Simply take your chopped celery and run it through your juicer. If adding cucumber, add that in as well. 

Next, using a lemon/lime squeezer, squeeze the juice into your celery juice. 

Pour this juice mixture into a large jug you can use to shake it up well. 

When done, pour your freshly made juice into 16oz mason glass jars with airtight lids. 

This should make about 3 individual portions which you can store in the coldest part of your refrigerator (usually the back). Fresh celery juice will last for 2-3 days tops so if stored in the fridge, you would need to consume these as soon as possible.

When it comes to juicing, using a masticating, cold-pressed juicer is preferred. These types of juicers retain the most nutrients, vitamins, and minerals for optimal health benefits. All while yielding the most fresh juice compared to centrifugal juicers.

How Much Celery Juice Does 1 Bunch Of Celery Yield?

The amount of celery juice you can extract from one bunch of celery can vary depending on several different factors.

For example the size of the celery bunch, the juicing method, and the water content of the celery itself. On average, a standard bunch of celery may yield around 16 to 32 ounces of juice. 

If you’re using a centrifugal juicer versus a cold-pressed masticating juicer, the juice yield will be less. 

What Else Can I Add To Celery Juice To Make It Taste Better?

My best recommendation is to add lemon juice. It will help neutralize the bitter taste.

How Long Can Celery Juice Sit Out At Room Temperature?

It’s never a good idea to let celery juice sit out at room temperature as it will quickly lead to oxidation and bacteria growth. This can result in food borne illnesses and loss of vital nutrients.

Is Celery Juice Good For Weight Loss?

While celery juice does contribute to healthy weight loss, it won’t lead to results by itself. It’s important to take other lifestyle practices into consideration including: 

  • exercise
  • proper nutrition
  • hydration 
  • plenty of rest and sleep
