Chlorella supplements are nutritional supplements that provide many health benefits.

Some of which include brain health support, immune health, and increased natural energy. It also works in promoting a healthy metabolism among many other amazing health benefits.

I’ve been a fan of both spirulina and chlorella supplements for years. In fact, they are my most recommended dietary supplements for good reason!

A good high-quality chlorella supplement provides you with essential nutrients that allow your body to heal. It’s also a great source of protein for plant-based diets.

True Story…

When I learned the power of this type of algae in combination with the predominant consumption of raw fruits and veggies, I knew it was the answer to helping my mom reverse her diabetes.

And sure enough, it was!

Spirulina and chlorella supplements played a very big role in reversing my mom’s diabetes.

When my mom went to see her new doctor asking to check her diabetes on a routine checkup, the doctor said, “What diabetes?”

It was awesome!

But just as you can reverse it, it can come right back if you let yourself go.

Taking chlorella supplements alone isn’t going to do it. It requires a combination of lifestyle practices to reduce stress and a healthy digestive system.

This means consuming, clean, plant-based food, predominantly uncooked, for maximum nutrient absorption and digestion.

Let’s break down some of the best chlorella supplements to get you started on your healing journey.

What Exactly is Chlorella?

Chlorella is a freshwater green algae (single-celled) native to Japan and Taiwan.

This potent source of chlorophyll and protein is loaded with essential nutrients that include iron, calcium, zinc, B-complex vitamins (including B12), and natural vitamin D among many other vitamins and minerals.

It’s also a great source of vitamin C and a perfect immune system booster!

It has a green-like coloring like seaweed because of its high concentration of chlorophyll and is most commonly used as a dietary supplement.

It can also be added to soups, smoothies, water, dressings, or sauces.

Plus, this powerful source of vegan protein offers 60% of complete absorbable protein including all 9 essential amino acids.

What’s more, Chlorella serves as an excellent source of essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6.

While there are several different types of Chlorella, the two most popular types used in dietary supplements are Chlorella vulgaris and Chlorella pyrenoidosa (now referred to as Chlorella sorokiniana).

If you are considering taking chlorella products, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider first.

12 Best Chlorella Supplements in 2023

With so many Chlorella brands on the market, finding the best Chlorella supplement can be overwhelming. This is why I have rounded up the best Chlorella supplements to help you in your selection.

Simple Life Nutrition Organic Chlorella Capsules

Simple Life Nutrition Chlorella supplement is a non-GMO, gluten-free premium Chlorella powder that comes packed in organic capsules.

Each capsule contains 1000 mg of premium cracked cell wall Chlorella and is easy to swallow.

Keep in mind that most straight-up Chlorella powders typically give off a strong fishy smell and taste considering it is an algae. However, when the powder is packed into a capsule, it helps mask the odor as well as the taste.

Sun Chlorella Tablets

Sun Chlorella Tablets are Chlorella supplements packed with nutrition and essential nutrients, non-GMO and gluten-free.

Each serving of Sun Chlorella Tablets packs a powerful punch of chlorophyll serving equivalent to about 2-1/2 cups of kale or spinach. On top of this, it provides plant-based B12 that is easily absorbable and digestible by the body.

Sun Chlorella Tablets come in 200mg or 500mg. My preference is the 500mg for a higher dosage of nutrients but also less per serving tablet requirement.

These Chlorella tablets are made up of 3g of Chlorella with the rest being other vitamins and minerals.

Sunfood Superfoods Chlorella Tablets

Sunfood Superfoods Chlorella tablets are nutrient-rich and use a chemical-free process in their cell wall-breaking method. This allows the body to maximize the absorption of nutrients.

The cracked cell wall powder is compressed into tablets making them easy to swallow.

Sunfood Superfoods grows their purest chlorella in fresh water under natural sunlight for optimal results and purity as well as natural vitamin D.

Science-Backed Health Benefits of Chlorella

Over the years, Chlorella’s popularity has continued to grow abundantly. As a result, it has allowed the funding of several clinical studies to examine the potential health benefits of Chlorella.

The National Library of Medicine provides a research study done on the Potential of Chlorella as a Dietary Supplement to Promote Human Health that is worth the read.

Another good study on The Effect of Chlorella Supplementation on Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is also worth taking the time to read.

As I mentioned earlier, it was with the help of Chlorella and Spirulina that I was able to help my mom reverse her diabetes. It was a proud moment to learn that I was definitely on to something with plant nutrition.

The proof is in the results my friend, and coming from years of knowledge and experience, I know firsthand how possible it is to heal the body naturally with raw, plant-based foods and supplements.

And while I’m not a fan of resorting to supplements, there is one supplement I always recommend… Chlorella and Spirulina.

What does Chlorella do for your body?

Chlorella is well known for providing a wide range of health benefits and helping the body to naturally heal from unwanted ailments. It’s also a good source of natural purification and can serve to support a natural detox.

Some wide range of benefits include:

  • works to fight off cancer and other diseases
  • promotes weight loss
  • serves to support immune health
  • supports colon health
  • reduces the risk of heart attack and strokes
  • detoxification of heavy metals
  • helps improve cholesterol levels and liver health
  • neutralizes blood sugar levels

And so much more.

Chlorella for High Blood Pressure

All foods that are rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals like chlorella, specifically with a broken cell wall, are great for maintaining healthy blood pressure levels and good cholesterol.

The fatty acids and minerals in Chlorella soften up the blood vessels and allows them to function better.

And as a result, helps lower high blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart disease.

How Chlorella Helps Detoxify

Chlorella has the ability to detoxify the body by binding with heavy metals to help flush them out of your system and prevent further toxins from building up.

Hence the reason more and more people are turning to Chlorella supplements. Whether it be in the form of Chlorella tablets or Chlorella powder, it’s definitely a great way to support natural detoxification.

The Chlorella Cell Wall

Chlorella has a tough outer cell wall that reduces the availability of nutrients and makes it very hard for the body to digest.

So, when it comes to the Chlorella cell walls, it’s preferable to select a broken cell wall chlorella supplement for maximum nutrient absorption.

Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF)

By now you already know that Chlorella is a potent source of essential nutrients and amino acids that have the potential to boost the body’s healing abilities.

But what makes Chlorella so omnipotent? The Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF).

The Chlorella Growth Factor is found within the nucleus of the Chlorella cells and consists of nucleic acids, DNA, and RNA. This helps support cell regeneration and overall cellular health.

The nucleic acids help support the metabolism, boost energy, and lower fatigue.

Because the CGF has the ability to rapidly multiply itself every 20 hours, it not only fuels the healing process but also helps slow the signs of aging.

Consider the Source

When buying Chlorella supplements, it’s important to consider the source from which the product is derived.

There are several factors to look out for to ensure the Chlorella supplement you purchase is of high quality and standards.

Be on the lookout for brands that claim to sell quality Chlorella products. Some brands have a tendency of implementing marketing tactics that have impressive wording on the front labels to attract the consumer and lure them to buy.

It’s the hook, line, and sinker method!

Avoid products that contain –

  • chemicals
  • additives
  • and unnecessary added ingredients

Avoid products containing chemicals or additives that can lead to toxicity.

FAQs About Chlorella Supplements

How much Chlorella should be consumed every day?

By this point, you may want to hit the ground running and go grab your Chlorella supplements so they can start taking effect. You may also be ready for overdue bodily changes and healing that you may be thinking, “If I double the daily serving, it’ll help speed up progress.”

That is not the case.

While there are no official guidelines as to how much Chlorella to take, it’s very important to follow the recommended daily serving as noted on the product.

Some products may even recommend you ease your body into it, depending on the Chlorella’s strength. In this case, they will recommend you start off with half the daily recommended dose.

What is the best form of chlorella to take?

In my opinion, I feel that Chlorella powder is more effective than Chlorella tablets for the reason that the powder is easier absorbed by the body. The only downside is that it’s not as easy to use the powder as it is to take a tablet or capsule.

To use the powder you would need to add it to smoothies, soups, or baked goods to neutralize the taste.

This is why I would also suggest keeping organic Chlorella tablets or capsules on hand for days you are not able to use the powder. Having access to both will ensure you don’t fail to get your dose of Chlorella on a daily basis.

Who should not take Chlorella?

Some Chlorella products may contain iodine. So if you’re someone who is allergic to iodine, be sure to double-check the product before buying.

Also, if you are someone who suffers from hemochromatosis, you probably should not take Chlorella supplements as Chlorella contains a good amount of iron.

Although Chlorella is highly nutritional and provides an abundant amount of nutrients, it’s important to consult with your physician before taking it.

This will ensure you are not overdosing on a certain vitamin or feeding an existing allergy you may have that could potentially result in an allergic reaction.

Is Chlorella the same as Spirulina?

While Chlorella and Spirulina are in the same family and are very similar, they still have some differences.

Both Chlorella and Spirulina provide a wide variety of vitamins, nutrients, and minerals. However, their nutritional profiles vary slightly.

Chlorella contains omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, riboflavin, iron, and zinc while Spirulina provides more protein, copper, and thiamine. Because it is not as rich in fat as Chlorella, it has fewer calories.

Chlorella’s most significant health benefits is that it contains the Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) whereas Spirulina does not.

What to avoid when taking chlorella?

Chlorella can potentially affect blood-thinning medicines like Warfarin from taking full effect. Therefore, if you take medication, it’s important to always check with your doctor before taking any kind of supplements.

This includes those that are natural.

Is it worth taking Chlorella?

Absolutely! Just make sure you take precautions by checking in with your physician if you are currently on medication. Chlorella might have a nutrient or mineral that may affect your medical condition or interfere with your medicine.

So, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Final Thoughts

I am a firm believer in the potent power and positive effects of Chlorella and Spirulina both. I’ve put it to the test with my mother and it was what helped her rid her body of diabetes.

The benefits are extraordinary in this powerful green superfood and I can’t recommend it enough.
