What To Do If You Suspect Coronavirus Symptoms + Recipe

Whether it’s Coronavirus, a cold or the flu, taking precautions and safeguarding your health should not be something you take lightly and should be exercised daily. To give you an example of why making your well-being a priority is so important, I’m sharing with you my own personal experience… 

I don’t want to give the spreading of Coronovirus a rise with what I’m about to tell you, but I do know that I was experiencing some minor symptoms of what may or may not have been from the Coronavirus. 

I share this with you to inspire you to action steps that could potentially help you push through your own symptoms in a similar manner. This does not in any form override getting tested or checked out as cases vary person to person as well as by demographics. It also does not mean to stop taking your medication. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is your responsibility to contact your physician. 

My experience…

For starters, I come in contact with hundreds of people each time I head out to drive for Uber. While it may be risky, I take precautions and keep disinfectant spray in my car as well as sanitizer and wipes to disinfect after every ride. 

I also practice daily healthy habits and fuel my body with nourishing, nutrient rich raw living plant-based foods. Because I have built up and maintain a healthy, solid immune system, I rarely ever get sick. Even being around others with a cold or the flu. 

However, I will say that last Thursday when all of Charlotte’s events got cancelled including conferences that people had flown in to attend, I drove a good number of people to the airport who were trying to catch an early flight home out of fear that they might get stuck due to potential flight suspensions. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen before. 

At the rate things were going that day, there was no way to tell what was coming next. So, naturally, people panicked and wanted to get out of town as quickly as possible. 

That being said, I had begun to feel an itch in my throat which had progressed throughout the day. When I got home, I had some sneezes but nothing crazy. Regardless, I knew that I needed to step up my remedy game. Soooo, this is what I did…

    1. The first thing I did was make myself a wellness tea. This consisted of turmeric, ginger, lemon juice, lemon peel, garlic, pepper and agave. This tea is truly an all around miracle worker. It’s great for alleviating nausea, stomach ailments, sore throat, allergies and headaches among many other symptoms. It doesn’t take long to feel the effects of this tea so I highly recommend keeping this recipe on hand for whenever you might need it! (scroll all the way down for the recipe)

       

    2. I ate fruit and made myself a 45oz nutrient rich smoothie bursting with vitamin C. Fruit is Mother Nature’s multi-vitamin and your best source for vitamins, especially when symptoms are trying to make their way in. It’s soothing and hydrating – something your body needs in order to thrive.

       

    3. Got plenty of sleep and rest. I am normally conscious about what time I get up because I don’t like to sleep in late. I feel sleeping in is a waste of time and I don’t like to waste my mornings away. It’s just the best time of day to take advantage of because how and what you start your day with is what sets the tone for the rest of your day.

       

      Getting plenty of sleep and rest is something most of us take for granted without realizing that it is the most important part of the healing process. It’s a powerful practice that should always be prioritized for both the mind and body. 
    4. Gargled with salt and water. This right here works GREAT for a sore throat. It helps alleviate the soreness, the itchiness and kills the infection before it fully develops. I did this several times before going to bed Thursday night for 30 seconds at a time. I woke up the next morning no longer feeling the soreness in my throat but still proceeded to gargle that day as a preventative.

Before going to bed, I was already feeling MUCH better. Keep in mind that I already fuel my body with raw, plant-based nutrition on a daily basis so that alone sets a solid foundation for counteracting symptoms that may arise. 

Raw living plant-based fruits and veggies is where it’s at my friend. Incorporate more and more raw food each day and you’ll find yourself becoming a powerhouse and ball of energy in all you do!

My wellness tea recipe

INGREDIENTS: 
(using all organic ingredients)

1 thumb size piece of turmeric, sliced
1 thumb size piece of ginger, sliced
1 fresh lemon, juiced
Lemon peel of 1/2 lemon 
2 pieces of fresh garlic minced
About 1/4 tsp of pepper (cayenne or black)
1-2 tbsp agave for sweetener (optional)
2 cups water (preferably distilled)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Using a small pot, bring water to a boil then down to a simmer.
  • Next, add all ingredients except lemon juice, garlic and agave. 
  • Simmer for about 6-7 minutes.
  • When done, using a strainer, strain into tea mug of choice.
  • Then, add lemon juice and garlic. Eating the garlic is an added nutritional bonus.
  • Add agave to sweeten as desired. 
  • Stir and enjoy!
