Back in January, I had the pleasure of visiting The Temple which is a holistic hair salon and self-care studio located in downtown Cornelius, NC. I had never heard of anything like this until a friend of mine recommended it to me after getting her hair colored by Brittany.
Meanwhile, I had been contemplating going back to getting my hair colored professionally rather than continuing to do it myself. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you may have seen me share my story about my hair growth journey. I’ve been posting about this sporadically which I felt compelled to share because confidence wise, it does take a toll on you and I know there are women of all ages struggling with hair loss and confidence issues as a result.
So, that being said, my intention is to share my journey about hair loss and everything I’m doing to regrow my hair back thicker and stronger.
When I heard about Brittany and her salon, I wanted so bad to give it a try but I hadn’t decided just yet. As a solopreneur, it’s not easy to just splurge on myself when there is so much more I could be doing to grow my business that requires money so I waited. Yet, I still knew that I had to do more than what I was doing to get my hair where I want it to be since everything I had been doing wasn’t getting me there.
Where I started with my hair regrowth
A few years ago, I decided it was time to stop using the junk and toxic hair color I had been using and researched a vegan, plant-based option that led me to start using Naturtint Hair Color which I bought on Amazon. Naturtint has great reviews and the next best thing to going to a salon. It’s more of a pricier hair color option but I found it was worth it so I continued to use it for the next few years. I felt this was a step in the right direction. After all, we each have to start somewhere. Everything else develops from there.
Which by the way, if you choose to use a boxed hair color product, I HIGHLY recommend using Naturtint.
Although I was using a much better boxed product, my hair was still growing out thin. Despite how many times I had it cut in an attempt to start over. I wasn’t sure what was going on but I knew that I had to do something different. It was time to suck it up and start cutting back somewhere so that I could start stepping up my hair care game.
For starters, I knew I had to go back to getting my hair professionally colored again rather than doing it myself. That meant going to a salon that used clean, plant-based products.
I started out getting a haircut using a Groupon to a local salon down the street from me which used vegan, plant-based products and was good but service-wise, not so much but I knew that I was on the right track because my hair already felt good after trimming it.
Next, I began to research holistic vegan salons in the area and then remembered a friend of mine mentioning going to one nearby. Turns out, it was The Temple. She gave me the details and it wasn’t long before I scheduled my first appointment with Brittany – a holistic, plant-based cosmetologist, self-care teacher, reiki master and in my eyes, an amazing human being, heart and soul.
I never even knew something like this existed but it didn’t hurt to explore the idea and thank goodness it did, because it has been a heaven’s sent!

I couldn’t have landed at a better place.
It’s been a struggle for me to grow my hair back again thick and strong since thinning out after an extremely stressful time in my life. I realize now that a big part of that has been a result of my haircare routine or lack of. This includes the products I was using, hair growth practices I wasn’t doing – something Brittany made me see as she referred to healthy regrowth as nurturing and cultivating plants. If you think about it, it truly is a similar process.
I couldn’t be more grateful to have come across The Temple studio and Brittany who has made me feel good about growing my hair back. Because of her, I now feel hopeful that in taking the steps toward nurturing and healing my hair for regrowth and strength, it will begin to come back – It already is! 🙂
