Repost • @thebraincoach In this post, I wanted to talk about how our early childhood experiences shape our self-worth. As children, we begin to form a “self-concept” and our parents play an important role in this. We have difficulty loving ourselves when our parents are either detached or over-involved.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When our parents have limited involvement in our lives as children, we have no one to mirror and we receive limited or no encouragement. This results in us feeling confused about what we really want in life. We look around and see other people enjoying their lives, loving their jobs, feeling good about themselves. But we feel empty, numb, depressed, and very small.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When our parents are overly involved in our lives as children, the excessive control over how we ‘should’ be in the world limits our ability to self-reflect and really understand our thoughts and feelings. This can manifest as confusion, anxiety, and/or depression. We end up having difficulty with making decisions for ourselves and figuring out what makes us internally happy. (Note: these parents may mean well, but constantly overseeing our choices and experiences prevents us from creating the emotional space to make our own choices, our own mistakes, and to form resiliency).

In both cases, we end up lacking confidence and self-worth. This is when we tend to seek external validation because we are unable to internally validate ourselves. The good news is that our brain is able to re-wire when we practice becoming consciously aware of our struggles and care for them with self-love and self-healing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you’re single, in love with yourself and with life, you can be anything you want to be, go anywhere you want to go and still find anything to laugh about even if it’s just you!🌸

That’s called self-love, self-appreciation and self-generated happiness because the fact is... you don’t need ANYONE to be happy. All you need is YOU.💖

If you happen to cross paths with someone who gets the pleasure of meeting you or is lucky enough to walk into your life, that’s called a “bonus” not a necessity.

Being single doesn’t make you lonely. YOU make yourself lonely. You are only lonely if you allow yourself to be lonely. If you are whole and fulfilled within YOU, you will be happy.☺️

If you are single, embrace it. You will cross paths with your person soon enough at which point you will be ready to decide if he/she is good enough for you and not question if YOU’RE good enough because you will know your value and your worth.🥰

Confidence and self-love is a beautiful thing. Be a reflection of what you want and you will attract the same.✨

We don’t just get what we want. We get what we are!😉

I’ve been feeling mind-boggled lately with so many thoughts racing through my mind. Can you relate?

I know it happens to all of us, some just handle it better than others. Which is why meditation is essential to keep the mind at ease. 🧘🏻‍♀️

Meditation can take different forms. One being a walk in nature while either listening to nature’s music or plugging your ears to soothing meditation music. I love the sound bath or Tibetan bowls type. The sounds from these two styles are so relaxing and works wonders on the mind.

I’ve also been listening more to subliminal affirmations which thanks to @ms.prezy , I’ve been exploring them more. Ever heard of subliminals? Apparently, they have a way of reaching your subconscious without your interference which is supposed to make them more effective.

If you’ve been following me, you’ll notice the last two videos I’ve posted have been around self-care practices. I believe it’s one of the most important practices we can incorporate into our lives for optimal well-being.

God knows without it, we are useless!

This morning, I thought I would change it up and take my breakfast with me to the lake. I got in a nature walk, my smoothie and some meditation time. Makes for a perfect morning and start to the day!☀️
